SUMMARY:Providing Tools for the Field: Policy to Practice Guide by Career Ladders Project
DESCRIPTION:CLP will be presenting at the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) Conference. Session description: The CLP Dual Enrollment Policy to Practice Guide supports the sharing and implementation of promising practices for smoothing the transition to college for historically underrepresented students. Each tool in the guide was created to help secondary school and community college partners utilize existing and new policies to implement high-quality and equitable dual enrollment programs that include intentional support for students and increased access to college through carefully structured pathways. In this session\, CLP will share what has gone into creating\, funding and updating the guide over the past eight years. Session attendees will get a behind the scenes look at new additions to the guide; including a data tool for identifying equity gaps\, resources for equitable dual enrollment counseling\, a guide for designing and implementing dual enrollment career pathways\, and a protocol for student focus groups. Resources from the Dual Enrollment Policy to Practice Guide can be utilized by and/or set serve as an example for practitioners\, administrators\, and organizations across the nation. \nPresenters: Kylie Campbell and Dr. Naomi Castro\, CLP

SUMMARY:Moving Toward Equitable Counseling: Action Planning to Support Colleges in Developing a Transformative Counseling Experience for Students
DESCRIPTION:In this SSSC post-conference workshop\, participants will hear from counselors\, student services staff\, and managers across the state who are embarking on establishing a vision and plan for equitable counseling. This workshop will engage participants in these findings and facilitate discussions around these equitable counseling policies and practices. Participants will brainstorm the types of professional development\, planning\, and collaboration space needed to move equitable counseling at their respective institutions. Participants will use CLP’s equitable counseling guide to help identify ways they can assemble a team; they will also use planning tools to develop a shared vision of equity with their teams. \nFacilitators: Byron Reaves\, Sherry Shojaei\, and Michelle Simotas\, Career Ladders Project \nPanelists: Luis Chavez\, Berkeley City College; Eliza Hoyos Vences and Chelena Fisher\, Cerritos College; Tommy Reed\, Chabot College; and Lorraine Blouin\, Long Beach City College

SUMMARY:Widening the Math Path to STEM Degrees
DESCRIPTION:CLP is co-sponsoring a session at the sixth annual Just Equations virtual conference\, The Mathematics of Opportunity: Closing the Divide. \nInterdisciplinary collaboration is leading to the redesign of college math courses. Increasingly\, modernized quantitative reasoning options are available to students pursuing non–math-intensive majors as well as those seeking degrees in STEM fields. In fields such as biology and engineering\, evidence has tied such interdisciplinary approaches to improved success. However\, due to complex transfer and articulation policies\, community college students are less likely to have access to such innovations than their counterparts who begin college at four-year universities. In this session\, practitioners engaged in college math redesign discuss the barriers and opportunities for broadening math course options for students at two- and four-year institutions.

SUMMARY:The Black Print: Cultivating Equitable Access\, Supports and Success through Dual Enrollment
DESCRIPTION:Dual enrollment can serve as a powerful lever for racial equity in access and achievement in higher education. For this to be realized for minoritized populations in general and African American students\, in particular\, must be intentional\, systematic and strategic in creating the necessary structural and cultural conditions for equitable opportunities and outcomes. Framing and implementing dual enrollment in the context of Umoja practices including\, but not limited to\, student centeredness\, culturally responsive pedagogy and practice\, and community-building. In alignment with existing and emerging initiatives and reforms such as academic acceleration\, Guided Pathways\, Rising Scholars\, and Vision 2030\, these coordinated and integrated efforts\, could represent the means by which institutional transformation impacting outcomes for our African American students can manifest. \nThis session aims to provide practitioners with an understanding of the dual enrollment landscape in California and the broader national context. Additionally\, it will explore ideas\, strategies and approaches\, in conversation with practitioners\, for intentionally integrating dual enrollment programs within existing Umoja programs where conditions permit. \nPresenters:\nTonya M. Williams\, Ph.D.\, Dean\, Educational Support & Services Division\, California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office\nLaurencia Walker\, Director\, Career Ladders Project

SUMMARY:Exploring Data and Examining Opportunity for Equitable Dual Enrollment
DESCRIPTION:CLP is presenting at the COLEGAS Annual Conference. Session description: Recent reports share that there is great opportunity to improve access and success for Latino/a/x students in California community colleges’ dual enrollment programming. Nearly 56 percent of community college districts have low to moderate participation of Latino students in their respective dual enrollment offerings (ETW\, 2022). This session will provide an overview of policies and practices that can support practitioners and will describe how a community of practice of both secondary and postsecondary practitioners resulted in intentional dual enrollment equity discussions and plans. Topics\, tools\, and templates that can support the development of localized equity plans will be shared.
