SUMMARY:The Black Print: Cultivating Equitable Access\, Supports and Success through Dual Enrollment
DESCRIPTION:Dual enrollment can serve as a powerful lever for racial equity in access and achievement in higher education. For this to be realized for minoritized populations in general and African American students\, in particular\, must be intentional\, systematic and strategic in creating the necessary structural and cultural conditions for equitable opportunities and outcomes. Framing and implementing dual enrollment in the context of Umoja practices including\, but not limited to\, student centeredness\, culturally responsive pedagogy and practice\, and community-building. In alignment with existing and emerging initiatives and reforms such as academic acceleration\, Guided Pathways\, Rising Scholars\, and Vision 2030\, these coordinated and integrated efforts\, could represent the means by which institutional transformation impacting outcomes for our African American students can manifest. \nThis session aims to provide practitioners with an understanding of the dual enrollment landscape in California and the broader national context. Additionally\, it will explore ideas\, strategies and approaches\, in conversation with practitioners\, for intentionally integrating dual enrollment programs within existing Umoja programs where conditions permit. \nPresenters:\nTonya M. SUMMARY:SSSC23 Equitable Dual Enrollment: Lessons Learned from a Community of Practice
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, college practitioners will share how they leveraged learnings from a community of practice to improve equitable access to dual enrollment. Partners utilized shared data to identify disproportionate access and created plans to recruit and support priority student populations. We will share the structure and development of the community of practice\, from site selection to monthly meeting topics and resources shared. This structure can be brought back to campuses and modified for local context. Participants will learn about each college’s journey to provide more equitable dual enrollment including navigating challenges and highlighting bright spots. Participants in this session will take away resources to help in designing more equitable dual enrollment opportunities and strategies to develop a community of practice with their partners at their college campuses. \nPresenters: Laurencia Walker\, Career Ladders Project; Amanda Xu\, Mendocino College; Adrienne Grayson\, Riverside City College; Rachel Fischer\, Southwestern College

SUMMARY:SSSC23 Success Coaching Across California: Emerging Models
DESCRIPTION:Many colleges are adopting and implementing success coaching models accelerated by Guided Pathways. This session will share examples of early learning and success in building collaborative and integrative approaches that ensure that coaches and counselors effectively collaborate. A panel of community college support/success coaches will share their experiences\, outcomes\, and lessons learned. In this experiential workshop\, participants will also identify and exchange different approaches to (1) student support and (2) successful collaboration. Career Ladders Project (CLP) has supported colleges as they develop\, implement\, and refine their coaching models. CLP will guide discussion about coaching approaches that address advising gaps experienced by students\, particularly from underserved populations. Intended as a deep-dive activity\, we invite practitioners at all levels of interest and/or experience to share and learn from colleagues to further hone their efforts. \nPresenters: Luis Chavez\, Career Ladders Project; Lupe Carvajal Dannels\, Diablo Valley College

SUMMARY:Agents of Change: Equitable Dual Enrollment via Collaboration and Commitment (CCEMC Summit)
DESCRIPTION:Dual enrollment often illuminates systemic barriers between K12 and postsecondary institutions that stratify access for historically underrepresented students. While we seek to transform our institutions\, we are reminded of the importance of collaboration and commitment required to support student success. In this session\, learn first-hand from change agents from Mt. Miguel High School and Cuyamaca College on how they work together to mitigate barriers and support more equitable dual enrollment opportunities for minoritized students.

SUMMARY:Multiplier Effect: Dual Enrollment x Math
DESCRIPTION:Session: Multiplier Effect: Dual Enrollment x Math\nConference: The Mathematics of Opportunity: Charting a Path to Equity \nTaking college courses in high school\, known as dual enrollment\, has been shown to increase high school and college completion. Because students participating in dual enrollment tend to graduate earlier and at lower cost\, such programs are on the rise in California and other states. Some studies show these strategies can be particularly effective for students who historically have been tracked into remedial math courses. How do we design for equity in math dual enrollment? How do we ensure we are not tracking students\, given limited offerings? Join K12\, community college and research practitioners in exploring the complex issues surrounding dual enrollment in math and sharing promising practices and aspirations as college and high school partnerships expand their math offerings. \nThis session is co-sponsored by the Career Ladders Project and Linked Learning Alliance. \nRegister for the conference.
