Widening the Math Path to STEM Degrees
April 17 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
CLP is co-sponsoring a session at the sixth annual Just Equations virtual conference, The Mathematics of Opportunity: Closing the Divide.
Interdisciplinary collaboration is leading to the redesign of college math courses. Increasingly, modernized quantitative reasoning options are available to students pursuing non–math-intensive majors as well as those seeking degrees in STEM fields. In fields such as biology and engineering, evidence has tied such interdisciplinary approaches to improved success. However, due to complex transfer and articulation policies, community college students are less likely to have access to such innovations than their counterparts who begin college at four-year universities. In this session, practitioners engaged in college math redesign discuss the barriers and opportunities for broadening math course options for students at two- and four-year institutions.
