Help shape the future of course instruction in dual enrollment! We need your insight as the first professional cohort to test the content of a new course in culturally responsive teaching and learning for dual enrollment.

In partnership with the Bay Area K-16 Collaborative and SPR Associates, CLP is developing a new course for dual enrollment instructors. Participants will provide essential feedback to improve the course.

Although participants will not receive continuing education credit, a $1,000 stipend will be awarded for those who complete the pilot.

Who Can Participate?

The course is designed for instructors who are new to teaching dual enrollment college courses, but all faculty interested in dual enrollment are welcome to participate. Participants may be college faculty or high school teachers who meet the minimum qualifications to teach community college courses.

Priority will be given to instructors from Bay Area K-16 Collaborative partner institutions who are in STEM or education disciplines and have dual enrollment teaching assignments.

Content Overview and Schedule

The course consists of three parts, each approximately equal in time to a one-unit college course.

Part 1: Creating Conditions for Success

In-person class at Skyline College, March 28-29 and April 19. Class meets from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. each day.

Focus: Class preparation and design. Part 1 is oriented toward instructors who are new to dual enrollment or new to community colleges. It provides a general overview of a course outline of record, student learning outcomes (SLOs), and creating an equity-minded, student-centered syllabus. Participants will design activities and assignments that reinforce the SLOs. The emphasis is on culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy and creating inclusive and supportive classroom environments both in-person and virtually.

Part 2: Cultivating Learner Success

Virtual class meetings (synchronous) on June 4 and June 25. Each meeting will run two hours; we’ll poll participants to determine the exact schedule.

Focus: Aligning classroom instruction, activities, assignments and assessments with SLOs. Part 2 will cover topics such as culturally responsive pedagogy and practices including types of assessments, innovative course design assignments, and strategies for creating a classroom environment of peer coaching.

Part 3: Course Reflection and Refinement

Virtual class meetings (synchronous) on September 3 and September 24. Each meeting will run two hours; we’ll poll participants to determine the exact schedule.

Focus: How to gather and integrate student feedback in your course and practice, and how to utilize both qualitative and quantitative data to refine your course. Part 3 will cover topics such as creating faculty inquiry groups and implementing practices from student learning communities.
