Career Ladders Project has launched an online Guided Pathways Design Guide for Integrating Student Supports into the community college student’s journey. The team has spent the last year researching and interviewing college leaders to learn how they are working to more proactively support students–by meeting students where they are, with support when they need it. We have used this research to compile an easy-to-use guide that provides information and strategies to redesign key areas of the student’s journey–onboarding, the first year, and counseling. Sections on transitions and career exploration are currently in development and will be released at a later date. Each section of the guide includes guiding principles, key components, college examples, and a “Getting Started” guide with a self-assessment, data recommendations, and questions to discuss in cross-functional teams.
The goal of the online Design Guide is to provide college leaders with a plug-and-play tool that has information curated and compiled in a way that is easy to read and apply in the context of college redesign efforts. Colleges working to redesign student supports to ensure students get the resources they need in a timely way will find ideas for how to get started and how other schools are approaching breaking down barriers to student success.
