Presenters from the Destination College Advising Corps (DCAC) and Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP), both based at UC Berkeley, and East Los Angeles College (ELAC) shared how they engage and support students, families, and communities in dual enrollment in an April 25 webinar. CLP, the Bay Area K-16 Collaborative, and SPR Associates co-hosted the webinar.
Supporting Students Across the Bay Area
Presenters from DCAC and EAOP described their approach to engaging high school students and families throughout their dual enrollment experience. The programs support students across the San Francisco Bay Area to take courses at five partner colleges: Berkeley City College, Chabot College, Contra Costa College, Los Medanos College, and San Jose City College.

Building Community Through Dual Enrollment
Dean Blanca E. Gomez emphasized the importance of building community and trust in ELAC’s efforts to make dual enrollment accessible to all students. “Working closely with your school districts is key because [dual enrollment] is a shared responsibility,” she said.
Dean Gomez highlighted the essential role of their family and community engagement services program, FACES, as the college’s conduit to the community at large. The college serves about 11,000 students in early college opportunities.
